چکیده

In this paper, a seismic vulnerability assessment at large scale is described, within the SIMURAI project. A field survey was carried out in order to gather detailed information about geometric characteristics, structural typology and age of construction of each single building. An airborne Remote Sensing (RS) mission was also carried out over the municipality of Avellino, providing a detailed estimate of 3D geometric parameters of buildings through a quite fast and easy to apply methodology integrating active LIDAR technology, aerophotogrammetry and GIS techniques. An analytical seismic vulnerability assessment procedure for Reinforced Concrete buildings is illustrated and applied to the building stock considering (i) field survey data (assumed as a reference) and (ii) LIDAR data combined with census data as alternative sources of information, according to a multilevel approach. A comparison between the obtained results highlights an acceptable scatter when data provided by RS techniques

Inland wetlands mapping and vulnerability assessment using an integrated geographic information system and remote sensing techniques

The understanding of inland wetlands’ distribution and their level of vulnerability is important to enhance management and conservation efforts. The aim of the study was to map inland wetlands and assess their distribution pattern and vulnerability to natural and human disturbances such as climate change (temperature increase) and human activities by the year 2080. Inland wetland types i.e. for...

Tsunami Vulnerability Mapping Using Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques: A Case Study of Kollam District, Kerala, India

Tsunamis are caused by the displacement of a large volume of water, generally in an ocean or a sea. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other underwater explosions, landslides, glacier calvings, meteorite impacts and other disturbances above or below water have the potential to generate a tsunami. The coastal areas of Kollam district, the present study area was seriously affected by the catastr...

The Combined Use of Airborne Remote Sensing Techniques within a GIS Environment for the Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Urban Areas: An Operational Application

The knowledge of the topographic features, the building properties, and the road infrastructure settings are relevant operational tasks for managing post-crisis events, restoration activities, and for supporting search and rescue operations. Within such a framework, airborne remote sensing tools have demonstrated to be powerful instruments, whose joint use can provide meaningful analyses to sup...

Analysis of seismic vulnerability using remote sensing and GIS techniques

This paper presents a framework to integrate several sources of spatial information to derive a map of seismic vulnerability for the city of Arica, Chile, which has been historically affected by this natural hazard. The proposed method is based on generating a geographical database with different variables that are related to human activity, considering factors of potential reduction and increa...
